With this being my personal perspective, I have a problem with
thinking of atheism as the default position.
The thought of atheism for many would make them lean towards thinking that they would be more likely to lean towards conception not being the start of life.
It's a difficult balance, I think, to not IMPOSE our beliefs on our kids while still SHARING and EMPHASIZING what's important to us, and WHY... and why it may differ, even drastically, from those around us (
I think of atheism and vegetarianism as two biggies here in our own life)- but that it's important to stay strong in your own beliefs... while allowing that others may have very different thoughts - which ALSO can be valid and worth contemplating.

Dawkins argues that while there appear to be plenty
of individuals that would place themselves as «1» due to the strictness
of religious doctrine against doubt, most atheists do not consider themselves «7» because
atheism arises from a lack
of evidence and evidence can always change a
thinking person's mind.
When they combine that awareness with
atheism, they become existentialists or governed by the
thought that there's no escape but death from the miserable absurdity
of who we are as ephemeral specks caught between two abysses.
I also don't
think I need to point out to you that using only part
of a definition fundamentally changes the word and definition itself, so to take only parts out to prove what
atheism does do as «religious» is flawed and destroys your argument.
@edgelbraith — i assume you are talking about your religion
of atheism and I have to agree that some
of you are very childish (in addition to being hateful, petty & devoid
of compassion for others) but I don't
think it's fair to lump all
of you in a group like that.
I
think we need to have «chaplains
of atheism» to provide services to non-believers at exactly these times.
They move to San Francisco, become gay, and zealously preach the gospel
of atheism whether people want to hear them or not... all the while
thinking how much different and better than daddy they are.
Indeed I
think that every Christian sect gives a great handle to
Atheism by their general dogma that, without a revelation, there would not be sufficient proof
of the being
of a god.

atheism or religion that I have a problem with, its the hate, control, and fear that goes along with it that I have a problem with, you say that those who are spiritual are into new agey, crystal ball, stuff, see that's what I'm talking about, you assume to know what something is about when you don't understand something you naturally fear it, your self righteous clouds you, don't you get that by being narrow minded in your view towards things, you really act no better than religious fundamentalists, being spiritual is a lot more than just the new agey,

Atheism is a way
of thinking, just as religion and neither should be prevented from being discussed, no matter what day it is.
Most atheists consider
atheism a small part
of their lives and don't talk about it or
think about it much.
And the religious denominational plurality along with strong middle class and later working class groups committed to
atheism destroyed any possibility
of return to Christendom, and the only option for national unity was to secularize the state with equality under law for all religious and secular
thought and groups.
And as I read through the many posts on this board many messages are made clear but none such as transparent as this one; the belief that
atheism is the way
of superior and
thinking humans and only the moronic or evil self - serving amongst the human race believe in the existence
of a deity.
It's only exclusion when you try to turn
atheism into this dogmatic struggle with any form
of monotheism, with the same ridiculous notions
of superiority based on human

think you may be trying, like Oprah, to define
atheism through the lens
of theism.
