of the things that struck me the most in your exhibition at Hollis Taggart is the variation across each
painting, the way forms are approached with different
kinds of marks —
thinner and thicker areas, translucent and opaque.
Greenberg arranged for Louis and Noland to look at «Mountains and Sea» in 1952 and it started them using
thinned - down
paint, with the idea that by reducing the
kind of tactility
of the
paint, the color would be more purely color.
If you see the conventional
painting frame, it's
kind of thin.
I later covered the bubble foil with cardboard, and some
thin wood sheets that I guess is some
kind of cheap wood wall paneling
of some sort, (IDK) which I
painted a beautiful shimmery metallic purple that resulted from accidentally spilling two tiny cans
of pink and silver rustoleum.
I know I said that I would talk about the various types
of paint that these sprayers will spray, Latex, Annie Sloan Chalk
Paint etc but to be honest I
kind of use the Annie Sloan Chalk
Paint as a bit
of a bench mark for this example because it's far thicker that most latex
paints I've ever used, so if a spray gun will handle Annie Sloan Chalk
Paint without it being
thinned then it will handle all but the thickest
of paints out there in the market place.
