• Onions, Garlic & Chives: These all
contain thiosulphate which can lead to stomach upset, and prolonged exposure can cause haemolytic anemia (damage red blood cells).
Garlic and dogs don't seem to mix well because of a toxic compound
called thiosulphate which can damage your dog's red blood cells and cause symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting or an elevated heart rate if your dog eats large quantities... however the dangers of garlic for your dog may not be as critical if you consult with your vet and monitor how much garlic your dog eats.
Home always smelt of «hypo» (
sodium thiosulphate — photographic fixer), and darkrooms were part of my childhood — in bathrooms, under stairs, anywhere one would fit.
Garlic contains
thiosulphate, which can cause hemolytic anemia (red blood cells «explode»), liver damage and death.
When enough is eaten,
the thiosulphate causes destruction of their red blood cells, a devastating condition called hemolytic anemia.
Cats should not eat onions, garlic, shallots, chives, or other foods that contain
thiosulphate, a compound that can cause serious problems.
Onions and garlic both contain
thiosulphate, which is extremely toxic to animals.
Onions contain disulphides (or
thiosulphate) that destroy red blood cells in the cat, causing a form of anaemia called Heinz body anaemia (a haemolytic or red - cell - bursting anaemia).
