teaching students to monitor their
thinking during learning by setting goals, applying strategies, reflecting, and adjusting, teachers will help them improve their learning ability.
The true art of
teaching is to ask the right questions, become a
thought partner (interaction
during instruction), and then assist in
students» discoveries.
I have included a sticker chart in this recycling and environmental set of
teaching resources because I use this incentive chart with my
students during the months of March (
Think Green) and April (Earth Day is April 22).

It provides initial support for including video - enhanced experiences
during teacher preparation that expose future teachers to detailed analyses of
student thinking and to opportunities to develop evidence - based practices for reasoning about
teaching and learning.
Specifically, we examined whether teachers who had opportunities to analyze

during teacher preparation, continued to do so when they reflected on their

These strategies include probing
students to elaborate on their
thinking, publicly recognizing
student ideas, providing time
during lessons for
students to
think extensively about problem solutions, being open to a variety of ways of
thinking about mathematical ideas, and positioning oneself as a learner by listening carefully and building on
student ideas
during teaching (van Es & Sherin, 2010).
Importantly, studies also show that strategies such as formative assessment (formal and informal assessments conducted by teachers
during the learning process in order to modify
teaching and learning activities to improve
student attainment) and metacognitive (awareness and understanding of one's own
thought processes) approaches — techniques typically employed in personalized learning classrooms — improve
student learning.
Think Pair Share, as it is
taught during Real Time Teacher Coaching, relies on teachers to connect
student learning objectives to their lives in authentic, relevant ways.
During Frost's nearly 50 years of
teaching, he was able to influence his
students because his approach focused on developing their ability to
think critically and generate their own ideas.

Although most of my columns focused on legal research, I
thought it important to introduce
students to formal law - related KM since — unless they summered at a large firm — they would in most cases not have been
taught or exposed to knowledge management in law school despite many of them (informally) engaging in KM throughout law school through the sharing of course summaries, online chatting (even
during class!)
