At this meeting
of education and legislative leaders, King shared a
number of encouraging
thoughts on a
topic that is certainly
on the minds
of district leaders and educators across the U.S: the recently enacted Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Maybe I'll put together another post with some detailed examples
on this
topic, but for now, I'll say that I've spent a lot
of time crunching
numbers and
thinking about the various impacts that turnover has
on taxes.
I have a few more comments
on a similar
topic that I'll post next week
on Buffett, and specifically
on his famous «guarantee» that he could make 50 % per year investing small sums — a result that he in fact achieved for a
number of years by using an investment strategy that I
think is mostly misunderstood by most investors.
NK: I
think over the years we just noticed a
number of shows
on this
topic, and wanted to throw our names in the hat.
I
think it would make for an interesting
topic —
on a
number of levels
of seriousness — and could provoke in intra-team discussion
on the differences
of opinion.
I
think it is thus a bit hard to tell if there is carryover between the two aspects; might these personal inserts focusing
on his enthusiasm and commitment be causing people not to hear as carefully as they should the qualifications that are included in his presentation regarding a
number of topics?
but I believe that judging someone's ability to have substantive
thoughts on the
topic of climate by the
number of scientific degrees they may have earned is a bad criterion.
I can't say I
think he has been entirely correct in every statement he's made
on the
topic, but he shares that distinction with every other person
on the planet, including myself, and his batting average is well ahead
of anyone else with a similar
number of plate appearances.
And so, looking again at the Ginsburg interview, I noticed a reference in the note
on interviewer Bazelon to a newish blog at Slate called DoubleX («What Women Really
Think»)-- not What Women Really Want, note — in which she and a
number of other women write about a wide range
of topics, including, recently, the nomination
of Sonia Sotomayor for a seat
on the US Supreme Court.
