Second, by passing moral judgment so ostentatiously, the blogger is putting himself

think you shouldn't pass judgment
on (say) Kingsley Amis's curmudgeonly prejudices unless you can plausibly claim to have a tenth

Like the weary sailor, the refugee from wreck and storm, who escapes half «dead, and then, in terror, shudders with dread at the very mention
of the name
of the «sea»; who swears he'll never sail again, who raves he'll stay home, even
on the calmest days, but then, in time, forgets his fearful ways, and seeks, again, his fortune
above the waves; I, too, have barely escaped the storms that revolve around you, my love, traveling far away, vowing to avoid another catastrophe, but I can't; the
thought of you breaks my resolve, and so, I return to where,
on that fateful day, Inearly drowned in your tempestuous sea.

Until then, what are your

With all their laudable effort to understand the integrity
of the Scriptures, both Old and New, and to insist
on the basic unity
of the Bible; with all their recognition
of the place
of Jesus within the setting
of Jewish piety and religious
thought, these scholars sometimes fail to see that the very truth about God which the Bible as a whole affirms, and
above all that which the New Testament says about Jesus himself, can be smothered by sheer biblicism and thereby made meaningless for those to whom the gospel should be a living, vitalizing, and contemporary message.
But I
think there is some risk that it might be misconstrued so as to obscure certain truths which I believe to be fundamental: that the Passion is the moment at which that complete oneness with the Father which is the unique and all - pervading characteristic
of the life
of Jesus is paradoxically manifested; that it is at that moment,
above all, that Jesus discloses to us God himself in action; that the judgement passed
on Jesus and the testing brought to bear upon him are a judgement and a testing exercised (
of course, within the permissive will
of God) by evil men, or, to use mythological language, by the devil; and that the judgement
of God pronounced at Calvary is that which Christ's accepting love passes upon those men, and upon ourselves as sharers in their sinfulness, by showing up their sin in all its hatefulness.
Mantel's memoir, like the novels, is thick with smoldering grievances: against teachers («I don't know if there is a case
on record
of a child
of seven murdering a schoolteacher, but I
think there ought to be»); adults generally («In Hadfield, as everywhere in history
of the world, violence without justification or apology was meted out by big people to small»); and
above all, against the Catholic Church, which stood in judgment
on her mother when Mantel was a child.

This definition does not imply that metaphysics does not deal with reality and only refers to
thinking about reality.19 As stated
above, in An Essay
on Metaphysics, Collingwood does not intend to expound his own metaphysical ideas, but to give a justification

A general review
of the endnotes from Gunter's paper reveals a fair number
of sources who will corroborate the claim that Bergson's scientific views are nor only not outdated, but go very» much to the heart
of current scientific methods and insights, but particularly, see A. C. Papanicolaou and Pete A. N. Gunter, eds., Bergson in Modern
Thought Towards a Unified Science (New York: Harwood Academic Publishers, 1987), and for important background
on how Bergson came to be seen as dated when he was not, see also, Milic Capek, Bergson and Modern Physics, (cited

of Contemporary Physics (Princeton, NJ: Van Nostrand, 1961), and the volume edited by Gunter, Bergson and the Evolution

The only reason we limit the discussion to the so - called «side A» and «side B» debate is because, as Cindy mentions

think takes quite a bit
of squeezing).
Hopefully some new posts
on understanding the violence

above, but I

Jeremy i am surprised you never countered my argument Up till now the
above view has been my understanding however things change when the holy spirit speaks. He amazes me because its always new never old and it reveals why we often misunderstand scripture in the case
of the woman caught in adultery. We see how she was condemned to die and by the grace
of God Jesus came to her rescue that seems familar to all
of us then when they were alone he said to her Go and sin no more. This is the point we misunderstand prior to there meeting it was all about her death when she encountered Jesus something incredible happened he turned a death situation into life situation so from our background as sinners we still in our
thinking and understanding dwell in the darkness our minds are closed to the truth. In effect what Jesus was saying to her and us is chose life and do nt look back that is what he meant and that is the walk we need to live for him. That to me was a revelation it was always there but hidden.Does it change that we need discipline in the church that we need rules and guidelines for our actions no we still need those things. But does it change how we view non believers and even ourselves definitely its not about sin but its all about choosing life and living. He also revealed some other interesting things
on salvation so i might mention those
on the once saved always saved discussion.Jeremy just want to say i really appreciate your website because i have not really discussed issues like this and it really is making me press in to the Lord for answers to some
of those really difficult questions.regards brentnz

When I read about Calvin and others ideas
on what Gods Word says, the Arminian, Lytheran, Wesleyan, Unitarian and various Church denominations and their interpretations, particularly when they hang their whole idea
on one part
of the Bible to prove how right they are, it affirms what I have always
thought since before I was saved by God as well as after that amazing act
of grace
on His part, that man values and honors the mind far
above the heart.
No such limitation
of simultaneity as a physically relevant relation exists in his earlier philosophy
of nature.12 In addition, Whitehead appends a note to this statement which has an oddly apologetic tone, especially when one reads the note (as I
think one must) as explaining how the statement
above is compatible with Einsteinian assumptions: «This principle lies
on the surface
of the fundamental Einsteinian formula for the physical continuum (PR 61 / 96).
Each time I'm

of these lovely words.
Subsequent generations have voiced similar themes to propel America's narrative: their country was
thought to have a «manifest destiny;» to represent «an empire
of liberty;» to offer the «last best hope
on earth;» and
above all, to embody «American exceptionalism.»
But fundamentalist American Christians
think they're
above the rest
of the world, so it's irrelevant that they're a minority
on the world scale.
If the sessions are conducted according to good teaching techniques, if there is a free and open spirit
on the part
of the leader, if there is a readiness to work together and
think together about important things, and

I am

of the theological limits
of the papal ministry, about which the Council spoke, as

on the Roman curia, without which no pope can lead the church.
This is evident in Adventures
of Ideas, such as in the passage
on «Creativity» quoted at length
above, or in its reference to the dart
of Lucretius.14 It is also evident in Modes
of Thought, for example, its statement about «the whole antecedent world conspiring to produce a new occasion» (164).
The third essay, «The Church's Limits», sketches the author's
thoughts above all
on the capacity
of the Church to give directions in the public social sphere.
Their chosen quote, and I hope you can read it with as much incredulous merriment as I did, «When the intellectual authors
of the modern right created its doctrines in the 1950s, they drew
on nineteenth - century political
thought, borrowing explicitly from the great apologists for slavery,
above all, the intellectually fierce South Carolinian John C. Calhoun.»
Along with this, the philosophical notions about soul, about immortality, about a realm
above and beyond the hurly - burly
of this world, present in the tradition
of Greek philosophy and variations
on that philosophy in the early Christian era, had become so much part
of the atmosphere
of thought that inevitably these two affected Christian thinkers.
My hope is that you stop praying all together!!!! I want you to take God out
of everything... My hope is that you will kill each other... Loose your way... Put greed, corruption, sinfulness and
above all, self
above all else... That you will worship all that is evil and wring every last drop
of God out
of your hearts... I want you to put money, forget family,
think and do immoral
thoughts, and stop helping your fellow man,, exploit them, spit
on them use them until every last one
of you is wretched and crawling in the dirt cursing God... Pleas help me... your friend Satan...
Yet, given the logical problems connected with the notion
of a finite actual entity somehow prehending the objective integration
of the primordial and consequent natures within God (as indicated
above), it makes sense to
think of God's influence
on the concrescing actual occasion simply in terms
of divine feelings vis - à - vis objective possibilities already present in the world as a common field
of activity for God and all finite actual occasions.
