Meteora's Magnificent Monasteries For several hours we'd been winding our way up
through ancient woodland when we broached the top of a hill and the largest and oldest of Meteora's monasteries — The Great Meteoron — came into view.
The town is on the edge of The Chilterns Area of Natural Beauty (fantastic walking and biking
through ancient woodland landscapes dotted with National Trust properties), and just up the road from the excellent Roald Dahl Museum at Great Missenden and the cottage in Chalfont St. Giles where John Milton completed Paradise Lost.
