Considering this film was from the «master» of the genre, I would have hoped to have been scared, shocked, excited or amused
throughout Land of the Dead.

There are clever pop - cultural nuggets scattered
throughout: a Mac Plus that is condemned as a «devil box» and smashed with a shoe; a gatehouse between the
lands of the living and the
dead that bears a distinct resemblance to the entrance to Disneyland; a hilariously avant - garde stage show put on by a deceased Frida Kahlo.
Occasionally Darksiders II does veer back into the realms
of the dark, grey and grimy, notably a ruined Earth and the
Land of the
Dead, both for obvious reasons, but even then it maintains its fantastic visual flair
throughout.
Including riffs on classic rock tunes like «Black Betty» and» Eye
of the Tiger», as well as a callback to the aforementioned
Land of the Livid
Dead in the form
of Granny's World Tour (a level in which guitar playing zombie grandma's surf
throughout the stage on flying coffins), these levels are a marvel to even gaze upon, and are even more thrilling to play through.
