Thyroid hormones affect nearly all of the organs in the body; therefore,
thyroid disease often causes secondary problems.
Many people who have been diagnosed with a form of
thyroid disease often adopt pharmaceutical medication to regulate their thyroid.

While lithium carbonate has been very effective for the treatment of mania in bipolar disorder, and credited for reducing suicides in depressive phases of the
disease, patients who take lithium carbonate are
often noncompliant because of adverse effects, including hand tremor, diarrhea, vomiting, weight gain and decreased
thyroid function.
For example, women have anxiety and depression more
often than men do, and they are also more prone to strokes and
thyroid disease.

Pernicious anemia is
often found in those with other autoimmune
