Stop 6.5 — A
great tidepool area on the Central Coast is the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area (it lives up to its name!)
Of course these are best seen at low tide and the
best tidepool areas are: Tide pools are rocky pools located nearby the oceans that are filled with sea water.
Anacapa's rich kelp forests (ideal for kayaking, snorkeling, and diving) and
tidepool areas provide visitors with the opportunity to meet some of the resident ocean animals up close.
Please remember to keep an eye on the ocean, know if the tide is coming in or going out and
explore tidepool areas gently and safely.
Also, check with the park's boat and plane concessionaires for trips to
these tidepooling areas.
When looking at
a tidepool area, notice how plants and animals may be found in certain areas and not in others.
Explore the beach and
its tidepool areas to the north and south.
Dogs are allowed at
the tidepool area, as long as they remain on a leash.
It is prohibited to remove rocks, shells or marine life from beaches and
tidepool areas.
