It's certainly the easiest way to achieve top -
tier status, which American doesn't normally
offer, and there is a good chance of Chairman's Preferred
status being matched to Executive Platinum.
As things stand the Hyatt Gold Passport program is very lopsided in that all the worthwhile benefits are to be found in the top -
tier of the program (Diamond
status) while the middle
tier (Platinum
status) doesn't really
offer very much of interest at all — that's probably why it's given away with the Chase Hyatt credit card and why it's currently achievable in 5 nights.
On top of that, the fact that we will soon all be able to have Hilton top -
tier status for free (essentially) means that there's going to be a large rise in the number of people entitled to the benefits that Diamond
status offers....
In the past the AAdvantage program has
offered some of the more generous award charts in the US Airline industry, the top -
tier benefits were easily the best out of any US airline (I would argue they were the best in the world), awards weren't especially hard to come by, upgrades were plentiful and, compared to its peers, AAdvantage was a pretty great program in which to earn miles and
status... especially if you traveled a lot.

United Airlines is
offering a special

tier status in competing airline loyalty programs.
Holders of the Chase Hyatt Visa card have been receiving emails
offering them a chance to fast - track their way to Hyatt mid - and top -
tier status by the end of the year.
With airlines like American
offering up to 5 elite
status levels (if you include the invitation only «Concierge Key» level) and British Airways
offering 3 official levels and possibly even a 4th and 5th (if you separate out Gold Guest List flyers and Premier card holders) some have been questioning whether or not the oneworld alliance needs to add an additional
tier.
If you get into MTH heavy you will no - doubt obtain a couple of cards that
offer elite
status and you might eventually work your way up the
tiers for most (or all) of these programs if you play your cards right with
status matched and challenges.
A 10 % bonus rate for bottom
tier status is not the best as Marriott and Hilton both
offer higher bonus rates.
The highest
tiers offer enhanced benefits from the mid-tier levels, but many times the benefits aren't necessarily going to blow you away compared to what's
offered by mid-tier
status.

All of these cards come with a basic, mid-level

tier status more quickly.
Finally, I don't want to downplay the value of the Hilton Honors Surpass card, which stands out as the only hotel card that can
offer you top
tier status based on your spending alone.
The rumor at FlyerTalk is that starting June 1, 2015, the new Elite
Tier Offer will give Diamond
status through February 2017.
Also noteable is that Starwood's SPG program that is so well liked by frequent travelers
offers the worst rewards rate of all programs to their top -
tier status members!
I'm really hopeful that there will be a super premium version here that
offers top
tier status.
Update: According to Hyatt (via Twitter), the Elite
Tier Offer is good for Diamond
status through February 2017 after staying 12 nights in 60 days.
