I find myself not sharing publicly that we do
EC way too many
times (not denying it, but being shy about taking my baby to the toilet in front of people we don't know too well).
We live in a society of busy - ness, with so mich expected of parents and so much to get on and do and so much pressure, that a
EC is an inconvenience of having to go against the perceived norm, having to pay much more intimate attention to our babies, having to deal with bodily functions, having to wake ourselves up a bit to what our culture has conditioned us to and having to go against the grain — all of which take effort and all of which take
time and / or energy away from other mummy efforts that bring more obvious and societally rewarded benefits.
My daughter was just 3 1/2 when I began completing the

timing (upon waking) and will communicate the need to pee when wearing or holding her.
Just holding her in the classic
EC squat position was sufficient communication enough to let her know that it was
time to go.
EC can be practiced «part
time», meaning that the baby wears diapers sometimes or most of the
time, but is given many potty opportunities.
I've practiced
EC with both of my children and they were both and toilet trained, day and night, right around the
time they started to walk.
Because my son is 20 months old I was sort of doing a combination of
EC and the potty - training method used by Jamie Glowacki, and for both we've been doing the diaper - free
time... and the only signal my son seems to give that he needs to pee is the «pee - pee - wee - wee» and the increased tendency to play in corners / out of the way places.
