I would use
grains that would stand better to the ling
cooking time: whole oats, whole spelt, barley etc
I threw it all in the oven at the same
time until everything was browned while the
grains cooked.
Since then I have discovered other kind of
grains as well, so millet doesn't make an appearance on our menu that often, but still I do
cook it from
time to
time and we just love it.
If you are short on
time, choose a lightly or semi-pearled farro (actually easier to find in some places), which will cut the
cooking time for the
grains down to about 20 minutes.
This
time I didn't have any of that prepared so rather than
cook the «
grains» separately I tried making this a 1 pot affair for simplicity's sake.
Most whole
grains that have a hearty dose of fiber require 45 to 60 minutes of
cooking time, but freekeh can be prepared in only 25 minutes.
Prep Ahead Tip: This recipe is super quick to come together, but if you're pressed for
time the
grains can be
cooked ahead of

For me personally this is more important than whey protein, I can eat meat all day and not really get bored of it but eating carbs such as sweet potatoes and long

times a day has always been a task never mind

**** If you are using LONG
GRAIN BROWN RICE (instead of germinated) you will need to
cook your casserole for an additional 30 minutes to an hour due to do the variations in
cook time between rice.
If you're in a
time crunch, you can skip this step or you can substitute a quick -
cooking grain like quinoa.
That is mostly because I am home a majority of the
time but I do love the idea of
cooking once, eating twice (I never eat leftovers after the second day though) and

cook times, it may be best to have the quinoa

At first I scoffed at the recipes as they called for already
cooked grains most of the
time, but I find that it made the dinners faster to
cook.
In all cases, it's really about the
grain's
cooking time.
I figured by the
time baby is old enough to have
grains, she should be able to actually eat
cooked quinoa and wouldn't necessarily need it in a powdered form unless I was trying to thicken up something or mix it into a breakfast concoction.
Note: You can use leftover
grains here, but if
cooking the barley or farro specifically for this recipe,
cook less than the suggested
time, to achieve a very chewy, al dente texture.
