some time out of the kitchen.
I've spent more
time out of the kitchen the past weeks with the warm Spring weather finally arriving here in D. C.

I made two modifications due to my
kitchen supplies — I cooked the whole thing in a large cast iron skillet (turned
out beautifully, took about the same amount
of time) and used shallots because I was

It is not an understatement when I say these are the best cookies that have come
out of my
kitchen in a long
time.
As you can see from the photos, everything looks fabulous, and the aromas in the
kitchen just left me wanting to cook everything Italian, like a commercial for olive oil I saw one
time where a guy comes home to find
out his significant other has cooked every inch
of food for miles into an Italian dish!
That sacrificing the
time to run to town for extra ingredients so you can work in a hot
kitchen to make meals for those who just got
out of the hospital makes you feel good.
I'm often cooking or baking at this
time... sampling new recipes... getting prepped for picture taking when the light is at its best... shooing everyone
out of the
kitchen like a madwoman....
To avoid spreading raw chicken juices to all parts
of your
kitchen — and to avoid having to wash your hands every five minutes — pull
out all the tools you'll need ahead
of time and create a little workspace.
The
time in the
kitchen has been relaxing and let's face it... my sweet tooth is pretty
out of control.

time, I've worked
out that coconut oil is better for this crust when it's a touch firmer, so there's a bit
