The Mate 9's output sounds a touch bassier to my ears, and less
tinny at high volume levels.
I no longer have the HTC 10 around for comparisons, but the 7 Plus's playback closely matched that of the Huawei P9 Plus — decent - sounding, but
tinny at higher volume levels.
Despite having stereo speakers, I found audio to be flat and
tinny at the highest volume.
In my testing (made easier by having an HTC One to hand), it definitely sounded louder and rounder; where the original One sometimes sounds excessively
tinny at high volumes, the new generation provides an altogether warmer sound.
However, the speaker itself sounds fine, and doesn't get distorted or sound
tinny at the highest volume.

At low - to - medium -
high volume settings, the bass is punchy, the
highs are crisp without sounding
tinny and the mids do a nice job of filling out the musical spectrum.

highs maintain integrity instead of sounding
tinny or screechy — like how most other tablets perform.
The speakers do a respectable job
