tissue bank, which will allow them to compare protein levels in
tumors to clinical outcomes for the patients who provided the samples.
To illuminate the process, the Yale team sequenced normal, primary, and metastatic
tumor tissue from multiple individuals, including subjects with a range
of cancer
types.
Because different
types of tissue absorb emissions from the nanotubes differently, the scanner took readings from many locations to triangulate the
tumor's exact location, as confirmed by later MRI scans.
This same feature,
tumor heterogeneity, may reduce the ability to identify critical gene expression changes when comparing mean gene expression in adjacent

type may have different sets

types, the new method

Prostate cancer is a
type of tumor that forms in the
tissues of the prostate.
Embryonic stem cells derived from human blastocysts have the key advantage
of pluripotency, meaning that they form nearly all cell
types but also have the disadvantage
of forming
tumors in vivo, which may limit clinical application to
tissue engineering rather than cell transplantation.
In a study published recently in Cell, researchers at the University
of São Paulo's Ribeirão Preto Medical School (FMRP - USP) in Brazil and collaborators in several other countries describe a method that objectively measures the degree
of similarity between
tumor samples and pluripotent stem cells (cells that can differentiate into nearly any
type of tissue in the body).
Clinicians also conduct clinical research and three current, ongoing studies include investigations into canine osteosarcoma, the most common bone cancer in dogs; soft
tissue sarcomas, the most common
