Manhattan federal prosecutors Monday blasted the notion that a former Brooklyn prosecutor accused
of paying bribes for NYPD gun permits did it for love — not the money.
The federal complaint targets former top Cuomo aide Joe Percoco, lobbyist Todd Howe and Kaloyeros, as well as executives from Syracuse - based COR Development, Maryland - based Competitive Power Ventures and Buffalo developer LPCiminelli, who are all accused of
paying bribes for official favors that included advantages in multimillion dollar state contracts.
However, under the new proposal, prosecutors would have to only prove the
person paying the bribe intended to influence the public official or that the person receiving it intended to be influenced.
The donations at issue, according to the Journal, came from Steve Aiello, president of COR Development, charged last month with
allegedly paying bribes to Joe Percoco, Cuomo's former executive deputy secretary, and Howe in exchange for official favors.
Cor Development executives Steven Aiello, 59, and Joseph Gerardi, 58, are charged
with paying bribes for influence with Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.
It said by combining the total number of people
who paid a bribe to a public official with the frequency of those payments, it is estimated that a total of roughly 82.3 million bribes were paid in Nigeria in 12 months prior to the survey.
