However, the game is fairly forgiving (at least until you hit the Challenge levels) on this point, with lives only affecting
you restarting from your last checkpoint; when you run out of lives, the game simply starts you at the beginning of the level again, with you having lost only the progress through the level to your last checkpoint.
Should they die you'll have to
restart from the last checkpoint, but really this isn't much of a problem because Arcadia is actually surprisingly adept at keeping herself out of trouble, and on the rare occasions when she does fall it's possible to revive her from quite a distance away.
You see Rebellion, the games developers, also came to this very conclusion and so they created two different ways to fail in NeverDead and have to
restart from the last checkpoint.

If you are seen, the mission will fail and you will need to
restart from the last checkpoint.
If you do end up dying (through falling into the endless abyss or burning up), you'll have to
restart from the last checkpoint you touched.
If it makes contact with Shu then you'll meet your demise, forcing you to
restart from the last checkpoint but with the added advantage of being an extra bit of distance ahead of the storm.

Poor old Dom seems to like being a bullet sponge at the worst of times; if he's in a situation where he's down but not out, you can still revive him but if he dies you are forced to
restart from the last checkpoint.
