Work here has shown that carbon monoxide in nebulas
helps trigger star formation; newer studies are uncovering the complex organic chemistry of space.
Simulations by James Edward Dale, an astronomer at the University Observatory in Munich, also question whether O - stars
really trigger star formation.
A nearby companion galaxy, NGC 5195, off the edge of this image, gravitational pull is
triggering star formation in the main galaxy, as seen in brilliant detail by numerous, luminous clusters of young and energetic stars.
Other examples include Minkowski's Object, where Cosmos simulations support observations that a black hole jet collides with a molecular cloud to
trigger star formation.
But the gas drifting between stars isn't dense enough by itself to
trigger star formation.
