In winter days when basil is not readily available... a good quality
tomato sauce
with basil completes the Italian herb trio that gives distinct Italian - style flavor to bolognese pasta sauce - i.e. trio of thyme,

Chop fresh
tomatoes (grape, roma or cherry
tomatoes) remove seeds, toss
