for lunch / recess (and I'm told not all classes get a recess — which is another subject, that I will get into more on another day), I am being told once a classroom is scheduled
for lunch that they have 20 minutes from there to go through line, eat, clean up, and get out the door — which if a teacher is running behind, a student misbehaves, or God forbid it
takes 10 minutes to get through the
lunch line, there's a problem.
I had a long talk with Hubby about what we could do

time — they are eating chicken nuggets, pizza and all that

time 4 pm - eat (8oz bottle + snack such as cheerios) 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm - play
time (if he woke up early from afternoon nap, then sometimes he still
takes a short cat nap during this timeframe 6:30 pm - dinner with family (solids in high chair) 7:00 pm - outdoor play
time (baby swing,
take a walk, etc) 8:00 pm - start of an 8oz bottle 8:30 pm - bath
time, read books, finish rest of bottle 9:00 pm - bedtime.
Just remove the plastic from around the lid, pop it in the microwave, and let sit
for a few minutes after it comes out of the microwave and you have yourself an easy and delicious
lunch when you just don't have
time to
take care of yourself and everyone else.

I'm back from summer vacation in
time to share some nice news: Houston ISD, the seventh largest district in the country, has announced that it's
taking advantage of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) to provide universal (free) school breakfast and
lunch to every student at 166 of its schools, regardless of economic status, and without the need
for meal applications or other paperwork.
The
Times article also notes that a price increase could drive more parents to simply fail to pay
for the
lunches their children
take, which creates a significant financial burden
for large urban districts in particular.
If you're not very excited about
