demand on the
grid by about the same amount, suggesting that the
total solar share of gross
demand probably exceeded 50 % during the mid-day hours.
Indeed, a study by Perry's own National Renewable Energy Laboratory found that today's renewable energy technologies are «more than adequate to supply 80 % of
total U.S. electricity generation in 2050 while meeting electricity
demand on an hourly basis in every region of the country,» provided that the
grid itself adopts technologies to increase flexibility.
