Alaska composes about one percent of Earth's total land area, and its estimated annual emissions in 2012 equaled about one percent of
total global methane emissions.

Our target is estimation of
global total methane balances, including emission trends in time and their differentiation by region and emission category, with specific interest on
methane emissions from northern wetlands, and transport and chemical sink of
methane in the atmosphere.
Agriculture has become a major emitter of greenhouse gases — carbon dioxide,
methane, and nitrous oxide — which are now responsible for 19 % of
total global emissions.
The

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates
global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions for 1990 at 39.4 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, suggesting that the Nigerian emissions may have represented approximately 0.09 % of the
total in terms of CO2 and 0.76 % of the
total in terms of
methane, using the IPCCs 100 - year
global warming potential for
methane of 25.

The following chart taken from the report details how the researchers categorized the
total of 558 teragrams of 2016
global methane emissions; U.S. natural gas production is listed at the bottom of the chart.
According to the Energy Information Administration, although
methane emissions account for only 1.1 % of
total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, they account for 8.5 % of the greenhouse gas emissions based on
global warming potential.
Much hydrogen is itself produced in the atmopshere by the oxidation of
methane, with
total global emisssions estimated to be about 70 million tonnes each year.
The researchers calculate that overall
global methane emissions account for about 16.7 percent of
total radiative forcing.

Using
methane's 20 - year GWP — a measure of the short - term climate impact of different GHGs — increases the share of oil and gas
methane to over 8 % of
global GHG (with emissions of 5,650 Mt CO2e), the equivalent of about 40 % of
total CO2 emissions from
global coal combustion in 2012.
While
methane and nitrous oxide make up much smaller portions of
total greenhouse gas emissions, these gases are still important factors in the climate crisis, in part because they each have stronger
global warming effects than carbon dioxide and also because they constitute an increasing portion of
total emissions.
