There are three zones or
dimensions of awareness: inner awareness of one's organism and its needs; awareness of the
outer world as experienced by the senses; and a middle zone (Perls called this the DMZ) composed of our fantasies, imagination, memories, beliefs, interpretations, prejudices, and our
total social programming by our culture.
