Although I generally tend to prefer exploring lesser -
visited places that are situated a little further off the main
tourist path, Chichen Itza was a magnificent
ruins site and it is definitely a site worth
visiting, despite its popularity.
For many
tourists, the main reason to
visit Flores is its proximity to Tikal, the most famous Mayan
ruins in Guatemala.
Located only a ten minute drive from the
ruins, are a group of three absolutely gorgeous underground cenotes (Cenotes Tamcach - Ha, Choo - Ha and Multum - Ha), which are off the beaten
tourist path and are a perfect place to
visit for a refreshing swim in a magical and serene place after exploring the Coba
ruins.
The local economy is also supported by
tourists visiting the Inca
ruins (MAA, 1981; Peyton, 1983).
Activities and tours will vary in costs to how popular they are with American
tourists, for example
visiting the so called world wonder «Chichen Itza» was stupidly overpriced and for me the least worthwhile temple
ruins I saw.
