Tradition over Scripture» so that it is clear that «there can only be one source, Revelation itself...» «Sacred scripture is the regola of the faith in so far as it is divinely inspired; Tradition itself divinely assisted... allows the scriptures to be always contemporary for humanity» and for «faith to be able to have in itself a solid basis for those truths which it bears in itself...» (pp. 437 - 438).

Since the Reformation in the 16th Century, much Christian infighting and misunderstanding has occurred
over the Catholic and Orthodox emphasis on
Tradition (which usually got confused with small cultural «
traditions») versus the new Protestant emphasis on
Scripture, even «
Scripture alone!»
In saying all this, I am merely pointing to another layer of disagreement with Newman: Ultimately we part ways not just
over our conclusions about dogma but also
over our assumptions concerning the relationship of Church,
Scripture, and
tradition.

I tend to think that it's not women entering leadership roles that has caused the decline of the church but rather
tradition and doctrine
over ruling the search truth in the
scriptures.

Given my own commitments to the primacy of

tradition itself the «Alenu prayer (which Solomon Schechter called the Jewish «Marseillaise») has this: ``... in hope we wait, O Lord our God,... for Thee to remove the idols from the earth, the no - gods being utterly cut down, to taqqen «olam bemalkhut Shaddai set the world right by the Almighty's kingship...» The prayer ends in two verses from
Scripture: «The Lord shall reign for ever and ever» (Exodus 15:18) and «And the Lord shall be king
over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one» (Zechariah 14:9).
