I'm a huge fan of apple butter and this recipe was my spin on
traditional apple butter that's truly worth the wait.
The only problem is that
traditional apple butter recipes call for quite a lot of sugar, which is off limits for me right now.

i just made these with bisquick lite and skim milk... I also added
traditional sweet potato spices — eliminated bacon and thyme — because i want to serve them with kite country ham — a sugar cured ham — maybe even put a liitle
apple butter — these might be great for Christmas gifts!
They look so scrumptious and the addition of
apple cider and cinnamon
butter cream gives this recipe a twist in taste from the
traditional flavors.
For the kids, I'd add peanut
butter and Nutella, and
apple and pear slices, because few of them are likely to want the more
traditional items the adults enjoy.
I have left out the
butter and brown sugar of
traditional recipes allowing the
apple flavor to shine through and the stuffing to add texture and fiber to the dish.

I think that by doing the sauce with the
apple butter, it gave the loaf it's own flair compared to
traditional meatloaf.
I think mostly because when I make
apple pie, I like to go as
traditional as possible and use all of the gluten and
butter, and my blog is a place where I like to creatively use healthier ingredients in lieu of the gluten and dairy.
To follow through with the fall theme, I topped these squash burgers with sautéed leeks and
apple butter, but
traditional burger toppings would taste good too.
Among the sandwiches choices are the
Traditional, with tarragon mayo and garlic
butter; the Asian with soy mayo, Asian slaw, Szechwan sauce and scallions; The Mexican, with salsa, Chihuahua cheese, avocado and lettuce; the Greek, with feta, tzatziki sauce, cucumber and tomato; the Indian, with cilantro mayo, mango chutney and potato - paneer salad; the Surf & Turf, with tarragon mayo,
apple smoked and maple glazed bacon; and the Skinny with low fat mayo, whole wheat pita, garlic oil, celery, tomato and slaw.
Food A few
traditional foods that preschoolers would love if they are available would be
Apple Pie, peanut
butter and jelly sandwiches, or Graham Crackers.
One quick note: I'll be sharing my
buttered rum recipe later this week and didn't want to confuse you with two photos that looked pretty much the same, but after I make the
traditional apple cider you see in the photo I add one more thing:
butter.
It's a slightly indulgent spin on the regular peanut
butter and
apple combo, but still a healthier version than using
traditional chocolate spreads.
They're not too far from the
traditional variety — instead of simply topping with a few tablespoons of melted
butter, we're using just a tad to cook down cinnamon and ginger spiked sweet red
apples.
