assessment developers shared their experiences around creating and implementing their own innovative
assessment tools, all of which aim to move students away from
traditional pencil - and - paper multiple - choice formats to
assessments that meet one or more of the following

Portfolios have been shown to be a flexible
assessment format capable of addressing
criteria not a part of
traditional assessments, such as continuous student reflection, individual
assessment of growth and change, iterative evaluation of learning goals, and the contextual examination of created products in relation to complex teaching processes (Barton & Collins, 1993; Guillaume & Yopp, 1995; Levin, 1996; Snyder, Lippincott, & Bower, 1998; Wade & Yarbrough, 1996).
Although not minimizing the importance of
traditional cognitive ability, these authors point out that conventional
assessments account for a small portion of the variance when examining long - term academic and career accomplishment, especially as it relates to the advancement of adult competencies in highly demanding professions where leadership skills and creative productivity are the
criteria for success.
We apply two main
criteria: (a) the fund describes itself or is widely categorized as an alternative strategy (b) in our
assessment, it acts like an alternative fund, meaning we can't replicate the returns using
traditional strategies.
