These processes enable land
councils to articulate decisions about land use made
under traditional law and custom by the land owners to the outside world in conformity with standard Australian land tenure and land use procedures, while maintaining Aboriginal control.
Likewise,
under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth) decisions about the land involving non-Aboriginal use are conveyed to third parties by the relevant Land
Council following the
traditional owner group making a decision in accordance with either an agreed or a
traditional decision making process.49 A variety of other Indigenous entities exist
under other land rights statutes.
