Arachidonic acid is necessary for sperm production, and the liberal consumption of glands and other organs
rich in arachidonic acid may protect the Inuit and Aleut peoples from the high levels of EPA they obtain from fatty fish and marine oils.31 There may be other components of their
traditional diets that limit the vulnerability of PUFAs to oxidative stress, such as
antioxidants like coenzyme Q10, lipoic acid, and preformed vitamin A found abundantly
in organ meats, or other unknown factors.
