There are now power - saving substitutions for
traditional incandescent
bulbs as well as LEDs, CFLs and
halogens, a type of incandescent with a tungsten filament.
Experts advise that by changing from a
traditional incandescent light
bulb to an efficient LED, CFL, or
halogen incandescent, you'll use 25 to 80 percent less energy, and the
bulb will last up to 25 times longer.
If all American households changed from
traditional incandescent light
bulbs to LED, CFL, or
halogen incandescents, the decrease in pollution would be the same as removing a whopping 1.3 million cars from the road.
Later model years will even offer multiple options for headlight
bulbs in the same year, offering the brighter high intensity discharge (H.I.D)
bulb along with the
traditional halogen.
While technically a form of incandescent lighting,
halogen bulbs are more efficient than
traditional bulbs, and so the ban does not affect them.
Many companies now sell «eco-Incandescent»
bulbs which look like
traditional lightbulbs, but use
halogen elements.
