Recently, several prominent national education organizations (including the NEA, AERA, AFT, and NCTE) have called for addressing equity in schools and society, specifically recommending that we need to highlight the «systemic patterns
of inequity — racism and
educational injustice — that impacts our students,» and that educators and school
leaders «receive the tools,
training, and support they need to build curricula with substantive exploration
of prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination.»
It has been evident for some time that the Federal Government is keeping a close watch on teachers and
educational leaders and that it has a preferred, if not popular view
of the nature
of teacher preparation, professional development and
training.
Whilst quality and accountability is essential to teacher and principal development, and the notion
of professional standards is supported in principle, it is
of concern to many educators that the complexity
of professional growth, development and
training has been reduced to a set
of basic competencies that may not truly reflect the complex nature
of teaching, the principalship, teacher education and the preparation
of teachers and
educational leaders for contemporary times and a challenging future.
From 2004, when we graduated the first set
of 33 students in a week - long ceremony to celebrate these youth who had been subjected to a rigorous
training that goes beyond ordinary conventional
educational training system, in order to immerse them into a new culture
of discipline and prepare them adequately as future quality and dependable

of schools have pupils who have been waiting longer than expected for assessment
