As part of the Belize independence celebrations a parade was held immediately after the speeches. Miss San Pedro for 2013 was led in by the Deputy Mayor and accompanied by the local high school marching band and torch bearers. The coast guard assembly also took part in the parade and featured one of the newest recruits to the countryÂ's coast guard, Almita Pinelo, who has recently qualified after training in the US. Almita was chosen to lead the coast guard assembly who were inspected by the mayor and the Minister of Tourism before the 21 gun salute took place at midnight. The firework display was held immediately afterwards and the sky was lit up for miles around for approximately half an hour.
