transfer their miles or points from programs they rarely use to those they use most often.
Effective January 1, the airline was no longer allowing people to
transfer miles or points from other partners into the program to count for the companion pass.
In general, you can not
transfer miles or points between carriers.
That's easy enough but for some couples, it might make more sense to look for a card that lets
you transfer your miles or points into your favorite hotel rewards or frequent flyer program.
Better yet, you don't have to decide where to
transfer your miles or points until you're ready to use them, which means these points offer tremendous flexibility.
For example, you can donate or
transfer your miles or points to a charity or another person.
Or, research cards that allow you to
transfer miles or points to another carrier, so your rewards haven't been built up for nothing.
For loyal, longtime customers, they may be willing to modify some of the terms of your card if it means retaining you as a cardholder — a lower interest rate, for example, or
transferring miles or points from one card to another (if your card is co-branded with a hotel chain or airline).

points keep them in that program, whereas AMEX Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards are flexible programs that hold
points that you can
transfer out to various airline and hotel partners.
Rather, they offer
points and
miles that are worth a fixed amount toward travel reservations,
or they can offer
points that can be
transferred to
miles with several different airlines, and even hotels, allowing more flexibility when redeeming rewards for travel.
