program offers a bonus for Membership Points transfers to one of its partners.
This week I'm taking a look at the four major
transferable rewards
currencies individually and listing out the airline and, where relevant, hotel rewards
programs those
currencies can be transferred into.
Alaska's Mileage Plan is probably the last of the major rewards
programs that worth noting here and, once again, thanks to Starpoints we have a very useful transfer partner that none of the major bank
transferable currencies transfer into.
Most importantly, all the credit cards I've listed above earn
transferable currencies (they can be moved to a number of other loyalty
programs) while the points earned thought the Marriott Rewards credit card are really only of any use at Marriott properties....
These
currencies are least prone to sudden devaluations — airlines and hotels like to devalue their loyalty
programs on an all too frequent basis so holding a
transferable currency gives me the option to avoid a recently devalued
program if it no longer offers me value.
I get the overwhelming majority of my Hyatt points via transfers from Chase Ultimate Rewards and, as I much prefer to hold
transferable currency balances than balances with individual loyalty
programs, I rarely large number of points in my Hyatt account.
Flying Blue has become more and more relevant for US - based travelers as it has gradually become a transfer partner for all three of the major
transferable currencies in the US — Amex Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points and, as of last month, Chase Ultimate Rewards — so any positive changes to the
program are very welcome.
Usually the best value you can get from these points is to, as is usually the case with all
transferable reward
currencies, transfer them into airline
programs for award flights.

We're seeing some

When it comes to travel rewards,
transferable points like Amex Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards — which you accrue in a central account and can then transfer to a number of airline, hotel and other partner
programs — are among the most valuable points
currencies out there.
