This is just because the hotel program happens to
transfer to airlines at a very high rate.
I can't say it makes sense to have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points that transfer to airlines, and make the Freedom card or the regular Sapphire card (non preferred) also earn UR points that don't
transfer to airlines at all.
Basically, you're getting great value by booking a hotel and
transferring to an airline at the same time, even though they don't have to be used together!
