It never occured to me to
try baking them in the oven (after I decided to flick the mircrowave oven last year while I reading an article from Dr Mercola about how bad microwaves are on food and your digestion — just glad I never really used the microwave that much).
I followed the recipe exactly so I'm not sure what happened, BUT I then
tried baking them in the oven instead and it worked!

tried this twice now —
in my first batch one tray (
baked in a fan
oven) was perfect, smooth slightly shiny top, nice foot etc) but the second tray booked
in a conventional
oven had a lot of «crackers» which had peaked
in the middle.
Also, I think that Dutch
oven idea is really fantastic, I think when I
try it I will finish off the last five minutes of the
bake with the lid off (once the crust is developed) to dry out excess moisture — which we have
in abundance here

try it — loaf is
in oven right now and is
baking beautifully!
If so,
try to
bake it
in the center of the
oven.
Though I caution you from making this while
trying to
bake something else
in the
oven at the same time, because opening the door I think is what is causing it to not rise to its potential.

try it but this is the first time I've
baked bread from scratch so I don't know how / where to store it so it stays fresh.

in between if you want it loose and crunchy (if you want it sticky and clustered — leave it and don't touch), or until it smells really good and when you
try a piece you love it.
