[Netflix's Love] at least felt fresh and directed in the way it surgically examined
the tropes of the romantic comedy.
If you were going down the list of things needed for a comedy to take flight you'd find them all here; the three main players pass the ball, the chemistry works, and the film never devolves into that most debilitating
trope of the romantic comedy - a serious third act.

«Silver Linings Playbook» was a nicely played
romantic comedy that was billed as something transgressive or progressive or whatever, but was actually hugely conventional, right down to the «the dance finals are on the same day as the Big Game»
trope which I'm almost certain is the climax
of at least three «Step Up» movies.
Blending together
romantic comedy tropes and a hefty dose
of cynicism towards the female - challenged Marvel universe, «Black Widow: Age
of Me» is about as refreshing, reflexive, and just plain funny as «SNL» sketches get.
It's refreshing to see a film about an older man and younger woman that doesn't involve some sort
of icky, Woody Allen-esque romance, because although «The Intern» isn't technically a
romantic comedy, it features many
of the same
tropes reworked to fit Ben and Jules» platonic relationship.
