tropical cyclone activity
across the western Caribbean may remain essentially stable over the current century, which has important implications for

tropical cyclones that bend northwards, move
across this warm
water, that adds more vertical convection power and moisture to the weather system — that can then turn into a closed circulation hurricane.
During the El Nino, the discharge phase, warm
water that had been stored in the Pacific Warm Pool sloshes to the east where it spreads
across the surface, raising sea surface temperatures in the
tropical Pacific.
During the 1997/98 El Nino, the warm

But when the surface

El Nino is characterized by warm

waters and their associated thunderstorms and clouds to the west

The spread of warm
waters across the Pacific in collaboration with changing winds in turn promotes evaporative cooling of the ocean, moistening the atmosphere, and fueling
tropical storms and convection over and around the anomalously warm
waters.
An El Niño event releases that La Niña - created warm
water from below the surface of the west Pacific Warm Pool, and an El Niño spreads that warm
water eastward
across the eastern
tropical Pacific.
(That cooler upwelled
water is then warmed by the La Niña - caused additional sunlight as it travels from east to west
across the
tropical Pacific, and it collects in an area east of Indonesia called the west Pacific Warm Pool, where it warms the ocean heat content of the
tropical Pacific.)
