We need to surrender our lust for power and recognition and return to the radical teachings of Jesus, it's not easy task, but it must happen if the church is ever going to be
the true light of the world Jesus envisioned.
Not exact matches
But when I took the opportunity to re-read these books in the
light of my later findings about the depth
of financial difficulty out there, it was obvious that — whilst from my own perspective those statements were
true — for possibly the majority
of ordinary individuals, my efforts to open up and explain the mysterious
world of personal finance had failed.
Matthew's story
of the transfiguration becomes a luminous narrative icon, a painting in words that points beyond the text to the
true reality
of Christ, the
light of the
world.
We do not just go to the
world; rather, we bring with us beliefs which determine the kind
of data we select.2 The traditional distinction between reason and faith in which the scientist uses only the cold
light of reason while the theologian uses the
light of faith is not strictly
true.
The Scriptures contain much that is
true, very much, but in the
light of your present teaching, you know that these writings also contain much that is misrepresentative
of the Father in heaven, the loving God I have come to reveal to all the
worlds.
The one and only
TRUE savior
of mankind, the
LIGHT of the
world...
You know all
of that, but you're still able to hear these as
true stories, as metaphorical narratives using ancient archetypal language to make, among other affirmations, that Jesus is the
light coming into the darkness, to make the affirmation that the Herods
of this
world constantly seek to destroy that which is born
of God.
They are learning what it means to follow Jesus into the
world, to experience
true community with other believers, to read Scripture in a new
light, and to serve others out
of love rather than compulsion.
The Bible also says rabbits chew their cud, the earth is balanced on pillars, the earth is a flat disc, the stars are small ornaments hung up in the sky, which itself is nothing more than a black sheet covering the
world at night... it says the moon gives off its own
light, it says the
world was created in 6 days less than 10,000 years ago... It says a lot
of things that aren't
true.
In the closing section, Tallis ponders the fate
of the artist who would keep working and being
true to his faith, predicting the time «When Beauty in itself will be destroyed, Its imaged
world stark nature to the mind» and the soul «nothing but a
light Phantasmal spray.»
This defense
of the accuracy
of the Fourth Gospel in reporting the words
of Jesus is undertaken, in spite
of what must appear to the disinterested student insuperable obstacles, because to these lovers
of the Gospel the alternative seems to be surrendering the authenticity
of some
of the most precious and manifestly
true of Christ's reported words: «I am the bread
of life... I am the
light of the
world... I am the good shepherd... If you continue in my words... you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free... He that drinketh
of this water shall thirst again, but whosoever drinketh
of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst... I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live... I am the way, the truth and the life; no one cometh to the Father but by me»... and many more.
Will he support the «
light of freedom» and the «mark
of liberty» that the leader
of the free
world is placing as the «god
of fortesses» above the One
True Way
of Christ and
of the One and Only Creator?
MacIntyre's position is, I think, similar to his characterization
of Rosenzweig's in Edith Stein: «We do not begin with some adequate grasp
of the concepts
of knowledge and truth and in the
light of these pass judgment on whether or not we know something
of God or whether or not it is
true God exists, but rather it is from our encounters with God — and with the
world and with human beings — that we learn what it is to have knowledge
of what truth is.»
The temptation, particularly for those
of us who operate from a position
of privilege, is to gravitate towards the good and ignore the very real and
true cries
of the oppressed and marginalized or even just - plain - different - from - us
of our society, to retreat into the
worlds of our own making and the brightly
lit aisles
of a shopping centre, and then point to the good stories as good enough for us.
The Spirit
of the
true God has always been present in the
world, and has found ways to communicate Love and
Light to every culture across history.
He must, for instance, make up his mind about what is «
true» in the Biblical text, and what is only «temporary» — i.e. to be interpreted in the
light of the
world view or the religious environment
of the age.
The church that is isolated from the problems
of its community (which extends from the local to the
world community) is not being
true to its mission to become the «
light of the
world» and the «salt
of the earth.»
Because only HIS
TRUE FOLLOWERS are truly walking in His Power, His Truth, His
Light and His Love to destroy the YOKE OF SIN and shine a LIGHT ON THE DARKNESS OF SIN that keeps followers of The Flesh, of The World bound to
Light and His Love to destroy the YOKE
OF SIN and shine a LIGHT ON THE DARKNESS OF SIN that keeps followers of The Flesh, of The World bound to SI
OF SIN and shine a

It is tempting — to me, at any rate — to imagine humanity standing at the apex
of the material
world's «great chain
of being» not as a kind
of cosmic viceroy presiding over an alien colony, but as the
true mediator
of rational
light to the physical realm, including the minds and wills
of beasts.
In this vision mankind can only find its
light, its
true environment, in him: «All that came to be had life in him and that life was the
light of men,» (1:4) and again: «The Word was the
true light that enlightens all men; and he was coming into the
world.»
It is far less difficult to simply observe the
world for what is
true rather than try and fit everything into one Christian
world view that has with it a lot
of baggage that involves shame, judgment, hell, and host
of other heavy burdens it calls
light.
People need to read the Journey
of the Innocent
light bearer
of the
world Books so they can understand the
true word
of God.
Beyond these, other space - based resources could investigate Alpha Centauri in visible, reflected
light rather than infrared — providing crucial multiwavelength analysis that could pin down the
true nature
of any discovered
worlds.
