The true number of homeless people in the city is between 6,000 and 12,000, not the 3,000 - 4,000 estimated by the city, said Mary Brosnahan, who heads up the Coalition for the Homeless.
Crisis, the national charity for
homeless people, urged that the
true number of rough sleepers was far greater after its own research found that more than 8,000
people were currently sleeping rough across England.
