I don't enjoy horror
films for the most part but I was glued to the screen for A Quiet Place, a
truly scary movie that's artfully executed.
That was what was so
scary about making the
film — by the end, I could be on a mission, and I
truly didn't know if I was with the good guys or the bad guys.
Wan's
film wasn't just
scary, it was terrifying, and his stylistic choices
truly made the
film feel like it was cut straight from the 1970's horror cinema scene.
It's a PG - rated
film, so nothing gory or
truly abhorrent occurs, and you never
truly sense that anyone is in real danger for even a moment, which makes it suitable all but the most squeamish of children as a mildly
scary and generally amusing escapist adventure.
That being said, the last 15 minutes of this
film are brilliant and
truly scary as you finally see just how sick and twisted Pauline is.
There are real moms out there who are just like the one in the
film, and thats
truly scary and funny.
Where the first
film never
truly made it clear if there was a supernatural force at work and showed nothing that would seem terribly
scary in the bright light of day, Blair Witch eventually goes all - in on the impossible, with pulsating skin parasites, flying tents and some CGI that undermines the carefully constructed practical effects.
Many horror games,
films and books rely on the fear of the unknown to instil a sense of dread in their audience... and though it's never
truly scary, Dead Money succeeds at being extremely tense and unnerving.
