The great issues of our time are moral: the uses of power; wealth and poverty;
human rights; the moral quality and character of
society; loss of the sense of the common good in tandem with the pampering of private interests; domestic violence; outrageous legal and medical costs in a system of maldistributed services; unprecedented developments in biotechnologies which portend good but risk evil; the violation of public
trust by high elected officials and their appointees; the growing militarization of many
societies; continued racism; the persistence of hunger and malnutrition; a still exploding population in
societies hard put to increase jobs and resources; abortion; euthanasia; care for the environment; the claims of future generations.
In this representational sense the Church is that part of
human society, and that element in each particular
society, which moves toward God, which as the priest acting for all men worships Him, which believes and
trusts in Him on behalf of all, which is first to obey Him when it becomes aware of a new aspect of His will.
We must come together in a new partnership with our faith - based institutions, civil
society, businesses and government to create a powerful locomotive for transformation so that our President's coordinated program of economic and social development policies will create «an optimistic, self - confident and prosperous nation through the creative exploitation of our
human and natural resources and operating within a democratic, open and fair
society in which mutual
trust and economic opportunities exist for all.»

trust the climate models and deliberately avoid open debate and discussion... My interaction (over the years) with a broad segment of AMS members... have indicated that a majority of them do not agree that
