Whatever layers of meaning you want to
try and work into the meaphor of the cup... what Jesus was asking was
something He knew may not be part of the will of the Father, which is counter to your argument, since Jesus
drinking deeply of the cup would exactly be the will of the Father for all the reasons you mention.
Drink up the knowledge, fill yourself up with it, and
try to understand why
