The word
"tuberosity" refers to a bony protrusion or bump on a bone.
Full definition

tibial tuberosity advancement on femorotibial contact mechanics and stifle kinematics.
Surgical and postoperative complications associated with tibial
tuberosity advancement for cranial cruciate ligament rupture in dogs: 458 cases (2007 - 2009).
Designed as an evolution of Tibial
Tuberosity Advancement (TTA), MMP has proven itself to be a much simpler & more cost - effective procedure that has excellent outcomes.
Semitendinosus (medial)-- originates on the ischiac
tuberosity of the pelvis and inserts on the upper anterior medial surface of the tibia.
The adductor magnus originates on the ramus of the pubis, the ramus of the ischium, and the
ischial tuberosity on the pelvis.
These bi-articular muscles cross the hip, being attached to the
ischiac tuberosity of the pelvis (Batterman et al. 2011), and also cross the knee, being attached to the tibia and fibula, although other insertion points have also been reported (Tubbs et al. 2006).
Adductor magnus: originates on the ramus of the pubis and ramus of the ischium, and ischial
tuberosity on the pelvis; inserts on the linea aspera on the femur.
The infraspinatus arises from the posterior medial surface of the scapula below the spine of the scapula, and it inserts into the
greater tuberosity of the humerus and the shoulder joint capsule.
All three parts of the deltoids insert on the
deltoid tuberosity of the humerus, which is a large bump on the outside part of the upper arm bone.
Insertion: calcaneus (
posterior tuberosity) Main functions: flexion of the sole of the foot (especially when the knee is extended), flexion of the knee and supination of the foot, with the foot fixed in position, works with the hamstring muscles in extending the knee.
Massage should not be applied directly to the tibial
tuberosity where the patella tendon inserts as this is likely to make symptoms worse.
When the pelvis tilts forward to create the hinge at the hip, the ischial
tuberosities travel upwards, which pulls the hamstrings much longer and tighter.
Insertion - Intertubercular groove (between the greater and
lesser tuberosities) of the humerus.
Quadriceps tendon to the base of the patella, and the tibial
tuberosity via the patellar ligament
The combined distal attachment site of the biceps inserts proximal to the apex, encompassing the apex and spanned to the posterior half of the
bicipital tuberosity (Jarrett et al., 2012).
The biggest difference between the two procedures is that TTA moves the tibial
tuberosity cranially to help use the quadriceps to neutralize cranial tibial thrust.
TTA is a surgical procedure where we move the Tibial
Tuberosity forward to change the angle of the Patellar Ligament to neutralize the tibeofemoral shear force during weight bearing.
Inauen R1, Koch D, Bass M, Haessig M. Tibial
tuberosity conformation as a risk factor for cranial cruciate ligament rupture in the dog.
In this procedure, the surgeon moves the tibial
tuberosity back into proper alignment and secures it in place with a pin or wire.
Surgery: Orthopedic and soft tissue as well as advanced surgical procedures such as tibial
tuberosity advancemet (TTA), laparoscopic and laser surgeries.
Clinical assessment following tibial
tuberosity advancement in 28 stifles at 6 months and 1 year after surgery.
The hamstring extends from
ischial tuberosity, the bone you sit on, and attaches to the femur behind the knee, the fibula [smaller bone in lower leg] and the tibia [bigger bone].
The teres minor arises from the axillary border of the scapula on the dorsal surface, and it inserts into the inferior aspect of the
greater tuberosity of the humerus.
It arises from the lateral third of the clavicle and inserts on the on the outside upper arm at the
deltoid tuberosity.
Insertion: calcaneus (
posterior tuberosity) Main functions: flexion of the sole of the foot (more isolated when the knee is flexed), flexion of the knee and supination of the foot.
Biceps femoris long head (lateral)-- originates on the
ischiac tuberosity of the pelvis and inserts on the lateral condyle of the tibia and head of the fibula.
Semimembranosus (medial)-- originates on the ischiac
tuberosity of the pelvis and inserts on the postero - medial surface of the medial tibial condyle.
We currently offer several forms of cranial cruciate ligament (ACL) repair to help patients of all shapes and sizes, including
Tibial Tuberosity Advancement, Tightrope, and lateral stabilization.
Our sitz bones are the lowest part of the pelvis (their anatomical term is the ischial
tuberosities).
This common tendon inserts into the calcaneus with a specialised arrangement, including a fibrocartilage layer that covers
the tuberosity of the calcaneus, and a sesamoid piece of fibrocartilage adjacent to the tendon - bone junction that aids in force dissipation.
Instead of sitting on the bony weight bearing structures called ischial
tuberosities, you are really just sitting on the bottom of your spinal cord.
To keep your hip sockets open and your pelvis balanced while sitting, here is another exercise: Use a flat seated chair and sit with your pelvis level and your weight in front of
your tuberosities (sits bones.)
In addition, the combined semitendinosus and biceps femoris (long head) footprint on the ischial
tuberosity is smaller in length (3.9 ± 0.4 vs. 4.5 ± 0.5 cm) and may also be smaller in height (1.4 ± 0.5 vs. 1.2 ± 0.3 cm) than the semimembranosus footprint (Feucht et al. 2014).
The pelvic floor (PFM) is a hammock of muscles that connect the pubis bone at the front to the tailbone (coccyx) and «sitz» bones (ischial
tuberosities) at the back.
The muscle originates on the hip, specifically
the tuberosity of the ishium.
The long head of the muscle starts at the lower and inner impression of
the tuberosity of the ischium on the back side.
The adductor magnus originates on the lower portion of the ischial
tuberosity and is inserted onto the tubercle below the medial condyle on the tibia.
Semitendinosus The semitendinosus is located at the medial and posterior area of the thigh and originates from the same place as the semimembranosus (
the tuberosity of the ishium found on the hip).
The muscle originates in the pelvic region; specifically, it arises from the pubis and
the tuberosity of the ischium, which are also known as the sitz or sitting bones.
The deep ilium fibers originated on the ilium and inserted on the gluteal
tuberosity.
Tibial
Tuberosity Advancement (TTA)-- TTA is another way to accomplish the same mechanical advantage obtained with TPLO but uses a linear cut along the front of the shin bone.
We also provide general orthopedic surgery including fracture repair, stifle repair (knee surgery), medial patella luxations, femoral head ostectomies, Tibial
Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) for cruciate injuries, etc..
