The theory is that heating from increased CO2 will warm the earth, sea and atmosphere and so produce more water vapour, the foremost greenhouse gas in total effect, which in
turn warms the system further and releases both more vapour and CO2 from the seas.

It is actually the other way round: the increased warmth produces an increase in CO2, which in
turn feeds back into the climate
system and thus serves to amplify the initial
warming, just as interest, after the initial prodding of a loan, feeds back into one's finances to amplify one's debt.
The contentious part of our paper is that the climate
system appears to have had another «episode» around the
turn of the 21st century, coinciding with the much discussed «halt» in global

It
turned out things were far more nuanced (as he later said, «The Earth
system may be less responsive in the
warm times than it was in the cold times»), but in a field that had long mainly foreseen smooth curves for planetary change with rising greenhouse gas levels, the result was a vital focus on the risks of abrupt climate change.
They challenge the longstanding view of Richard Lindzen and others that there are natural regulators built in to the tropical climate
system that «let off steam» in a way; but they also challenge those using the specter of tropical
warming — including the Amazon rain forest
turning into a desert — as another reason to move swiftly to curb greenhouse gases.
It is also clear that modest amounts of
warming will have both positive and negative impacts, but above about 4 or 5 degrees Fahrenheit most impacts
turn negative for many ecological

The measure of «climate» sensitivity by looking at only tropospheric temperature sensitivity might need to be examined a bit, especially, if
turned out to be the case (as some research seems to indicate) that CO2 at 400 ppm induces a permanent La Niña state in the Pacific, while still allowing for rapid
warming in other parts of the ocean and climate
system.

I was hoping that by including three examples of change in the
system (energy input, water volume, pot size) I'd avoid the direct and obvious comparison between
warming the globe and
turning up the stove:)
Imagine that you add a few external factors to that imaginary
warming kettle (a fan or air conditioning vent blowing directly at the stove; adding more water (hot or cold) to the kettle; a bucket of ice cubes sitting by its side; etc.) and what we have is a heating
system that is affected by those other factors - but the water will still eventually boil unless the burner is
turned off or
turned down significantly.
The tropical cyclones that bend northwards, move across this
warm water, that adds more vertical convection power and moisture to the weather
system — that can then
turn into a closed circulation hurricane.
So, it is not surprising that those modellers who «need» to get
warm surface waters to move into the depths of the oceans, and remain sequestered there for long periods of time, would
turn to the physical mechanism of this vertical circulation
system.
The real cause of Arctic
warming is a rearrangement of the North Atlantic current
system at the
turn of the century that brought
warm currents like the Gulf Stream into the Arctic Ocean.
If you are a «hot house flower» and prefer on occasion to have
warmer temperatures, then your
system should be designed so that you can «
turn up the heat», typically controlled using a conventional room thermostat.
Since to me (and many scientists, although some wanted a lot more corroborative evidence, which they've also gotten) it makes absolutely no sense to presume that the earth would just go about its merry way and keep the climate nice and relatively stable for us (though this rare actual climate scientist pseudo skeptic seems to think it would, based upon some non scientific belief — see second half of this piece), when the earth changes climate easily as it is, climate is ultimately an expression of energy, it is stabilized (right now) by the oceans and ice sheets, and increasing the number of long term thermal radiation / heat energy absorbing and re radiating molecules to levels not seen on earth in several million years would add an enormous influx of energy to the lower atmosphere earth
system, which would mildly
warm the air and increasingly transfer energy to the earth over time, which in
turn would start to alter those stabilizing
systems (and which, with increasing ocean energy retention and accelerating polar ice sheet melting at both ends of the globe, is exactly what we've been seeing) and start to reinforce the same process until a new stases would be reached well after the atmospheric levels of ghg has stabilized.
Global
warming believer -
turned - skeptic Anthony Watts, a former TV meteorologist, posted a new report online questioning the reliability of weather stations in the U.S. Historical Climatology Network, a 120 - year - old weather
system that forms one tent pole of climate measurements.
All added together these pus a significant external forcing on the climate
system,
turning the energy balance nob to «accumulate», and thus,
warmer we go...
About the only people who still claim to believe in anthropogenic global
warming seem to be those who have
turned it into a their new belief
system, the easily bullshitted ignorant, or those who stand to make big money on it via carbon trading schemes or getting grant money to study improved ways to BS the ignorant and those who are dogmatic about global
warming.
The Sun
turned out to be at the centre of the solar
system not the earth and ironically it is also one of the main drivers of global
warming (and cooling) in the geological history of the earth, including the 20th and 21st Century.
As it
turns out, satellites are situated perfectly to be the premier 24/7 monitoring
system of the atmosphere, thus allowing scientists to measure and watch for a constant
warming acceleration - i.e., indicating the existence of the hypothetical tipping point.
I would be delighted if it
turns out that we haven't understood the
system as well as we think we do and that we might get a 20 - to 30 - year «breathing period» when global
warming slows or is even halted,»)
It takes longer to heat a room with UFH than
turning on radiators, but once the
system is switched off the room stays
warm for much longer.
