I didn't have
turnip greens so I used chrysanthemum greens.

I am a huge fan of chard, spinach, and kale, not to mention collard,
turnip, beet, and daikon
greens, and they do pair
so nicely with sweet potatoes and squashes.
I had no
turnip so added some languishing cabbage and frozen
green beans to mine.
I'm from the south,
so I grew up on
turnip green & collards.
I'm Southern,
so I love to pair it with collard and
turnip greens.
However, leafy
greens such as kale, spinach, endive, romaine, collards,
turnip greens and mustard
greens (just to name a few) are
so dense in other nutrients that they should be a focal point of your diet.
This was my first time cooking
turnip greens (and maybe second time cooking actual
turnips),
so I'm glad I didn't discard the tops at the market!
I was trying to use up mustard and
turnip greens that wintered over in my garden and some red and Yukon gold potatoes
so I started out with a slightly different ingredients list, but followed the recipe otherwise.
I can never find escarole
so I've used
turnip greens, mustard
greens or spinach, bur it's always delicious.
Well I really altered this recipe to fit my ingredients and was looking for a way to cook the
turnip greens Used 4 boneless chicken thighs that were browned in olive oil, butter, pressed fresh garlic, salt, pepper, basil and fresh parsley and then added 2 cup water to brought to boil then removed chicken and cut into pieces Measure liquid left and add enough to make 3 1/2 cup liquid Add
turnip greens and chicken plus salt and brought back to boil then simmered for 20 minutes I had used the
turnips for another meal
so I added tricolor carrots, organic coconut sugar, organic unpasteurized unfiltered Apple cider vinegar, and salt let cooked for 10 minutes at med low (slow boil) Then I reduced the heat and added the apples for the last 10 minutes It was absolutely delicious and very flavorful.
We are stopping at the farm on the way to pick some kale for you
so you can get your fix of fresh
greens and
turnips.
In the south, we like our
turnip roots cooked with the
green tops,
so I fried up some bacon, julienned the roots, and braised everything together in a bottle of German pilsner.

Kale, mustard

turnip greens and broccoli are low in oxalates
so we absorb calcium from these foods very well.
So to make this luscious beef stew, I used stewing meat,
turnips, carrots, parsnips, onions,
green beans and mushrooms.
