In order to advance, players battle in
turn - based, head - to - head «match - three» style puzzle games in one of three distinct gameplay modes: Single - player allows gamers to battle
against the
computer AI as they embark on over 150 challenging quests, Instant Action allows gamers to jump in and immediately play continuous battles to level - up characters without participating in quests, and Multiplayer allows gamers to battle live

The reason I think this is because the game has a tile - based movement system, every match is between two players (or one player and one
computer - controlled
opponent) who take
turns acting, and every unit and system has at least one countermeasure / unit that works
against it.
Because of this I gradually grew to prefer playing
against computer opponents rather than my actual friends and, eventually, our gaming sessions devolved into taking
turns playing single - player games.
