Eighteen per cent of this area consists of chenopod shrublands, native
tussock grasslands, and woodlands and shrublands that are dominated by mulga (Acacia aneura) in eastern Australia, within the 200 to 500 mm annual rainfall zone.
The bronzed
grasslands were a stark contrast to the green jungle all around, and among the
tussocks grew groves of tree ferns, whose lacy fronds waved above my head.
