Researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center have developed a new drug candidate that shows potential in laboratory studies against a rare
type of acute leukemia.
AML is one of the most deadly types of leukemia and the most common
type of acute leukemia in adults; it increases in frequency as we age.

We found that a history
of breastfeeding was associated with a reduction in the risk
of acute otitis media, non-specific gastroenteritis, severe lower respiratory tract infections, atopic dermatitis, asthma (young children), obesity,
type 1 and 2 diabetes, childhood

The new study, published March 14 in the Journal
of Clinical Investigation, focused on a particularly aggressive form
of B - cell
acute lymphoblastic
leukemia (B - ALL), the most prevalent
type of leukemia in children and young adults.

of the Free University Medical Center in Amsterdam and his colleagues recently identified the new marker, called C -
type lectin - like molecule - 1 or CLL - 1, in 92 percent
of people with a form
of acute myeloid
leukemia.
